Medininagar/Ranchi: Students of Saint Mariam School experienced a rare educational opportunity on Thursday when they observed the live proceedings of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly during the ongoing Budget Session. The visit was organized under the vision of the school’s Chairman Avinash Dev, aimed at introducing young learners to democratic processes and strengthening their understanding of constitutional values.
During the session, students saw how annual budgetary provisions for various state departments are presented and debated—an experience many described as both “new” and “inspiring.” The exposure, teachers said, helped students connect classroom lessons on “Students and Politics” to real‑world governance.
Local MLA Alok Chaurasia played a crucial role in facilitating the visit. Students observed his Question Hour, during which he acknowledged them by name and encouraged them toward a bright future. Assembly Speaker Ravindra Mahato also appreciated the presence of the young visitors.
Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore interacted with the students and urged them to aspire to become educated leaders. “Every household should produce at least one educated leader so that good laws can be made for the state,” he said, emphasizing the need for well‑informed representatives to safeguard democracy.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren and MLA Kalpana Soren warmly welcomed the students, posed for photographs, and shared the moments on their social media platforms. Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari and former minister Mithilesh Thakur were also present, with Mr. Thakur playing a pivotal role in coordinating the students’ interaction with the leaders.
Students shared a variety of impressions from their visit—ranging from admiration for the Assembly building’s architecture and cleanliness to appreciation for the cultural artwork displayed inside. Many said the visit broadened their career aspirations, particularly in leadership and public service. Several girl students expressed deep admiration for Kalpana Soren, praising her confidence and natural presence.
Chairman Avinash Dev thanked all the dignitaries and supporters who made the visit possible. He announced that the school plans to organize a tour of the Parliament House in New Delhi next, to help students witness Lok Sabha proceedings. “These children are the country’s true assets and its future,” he said.
Vice Principal Mr. S.B. Saha, Science Teacher Mr. Praveen Dubey, Mr. Sudhanshu Dubey, and other faculty members accompanied the students during the visit.
