Allegations of Political Interference in MNREGA and VVG Ram G Works

GARHWA: Fresh allegations have surfaced in parts of Garhwa district, where villagers claim that representatives from two political parties—BJP and JMM—have allegedly colluded with the local Mukhiya to obstruct developmental work carried out under MNREGA and VVG Ram G.

According to residents, two individuals have been exerting pressure on ongoing projects by invoking their supposed connections to senior political leaders. One of them allegedly presented himself as a representative of the local MP, BD Ram, while the other claimed to be a close associate of former minister Mithilesh Thakur. These assertions of political influence, villagers say, were used to interfere with or stall sanctioned work.

Locals reported that these individuals frequently visit work sites, instructing labourers and supervisors to halt activities until they receive further “directions.” This has created uncertainty for workers who depend on daily wages and has slowed progress on several rural infrastructure tasks.

Villagers also alleged that the Mukhiya has been working in coordination with these political intermediaries, enabling them to assert control over labour distribution, work permissions, and job card–related processes. Some residents claimed that those who refused to comply faced threats of having their names removed from job lists or future work opportunities.

The resulting environment, according to multiple villagers, is one of intimidation and confusion. “Every few days someone comes and says they have influence in the administration. They stop the work, saying nothing can continue without their approval,” said a resident, requesting anonymity.

These concerns reflect growing frustration among communities that rely on MNREGA and VVG Ram G for essential livelihood opportunities. Many pointed out that constant disruptions not only delay public works but also prevent workers from earning wages at a time when rural employment remains crucial.

Local officials have not yet issued a formal response to these allegations. However, villagers have called for an independent inquiry into the alleged interference and a review of political influence over grassroots development processes.
