Gurugram: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Haryana state minister Yashwant Shekhawat has urged organisers of Ramleela, Durga Puja, Garba and other religious events to avoid obscene songs and objectionable performances, while strengthening security arrangements at festive gatherings.
In a statement, Shekhawat said reports of vulgar and indecent presentations at some religious and cultural programmes had drawn objections from sections of society. He said organisers should ensure that performances remain consistent with the religious significance and cultural traditions of these events.
He appealed to organising committees to prioritise devotion, decorum and traditional values while planning programmes, arguing that such gatherings should promote faith, moral values and social harmony rather than focus solely on entertainment.
Shekhawat also called for stricter entry procedures and adequate security at Garba and Dandiya events to prevent harassment and other criminal incidents, stressing that women’s safety must remain a priority.
The VHP said it was willing to cooperate with organising committees to maintain the religious and cultural character of festive celebrations.
