Garhwa: In a significant step towards fulfilling a long-pending public demand, the process for construction of a permanent bridge over the Danro River has advanced with the publication of a tender for the project. The proposed bridge will replace the existing pontoon (Pipa) bridge and is expected to greatly improve connectivity and transportation facilities for residents of Tandwa and Garhwa areas.
According to Garhwa Nagar Parishad Chairman Ashish Kumar Soni alias Daulat Soni, the demand for a permanent bridge had been raised by local residents for several years. He said that he met Deputy Commissioner Pashupatinath Mishra on August 18, 2026, and requested administrative support for the project, citing its importance for public convenience and regional development.
Taking note of the requirement, the Deputy Commissioner approved an administrative sanction of Rs: 94.44 lakh from the Untied Fund on October 14, 2026. With the tender now officially floated, the project has moved a step closer to implementation.
Soni described the development as more than just the construction of a bridge, saying it would provide safer and more convenient transportation for thousands of people who regularly commute across the river. He termed the progress a major achievement, stating that sustained efforts over the past eight months had helped translate a years-old public demand into a tangible project.
Welcoming support from both present and former public representatives who have raised the demand for enhanced bridge infrastructure in the area, Soni said development should remain a collective agenda rather than an issue of individual credit. He also expressed gratitude to current and former elected representatives as well as the state government for their cooperation.
Reiterating his commitment to public service, Soni said his focus remains on development and welfare initiatives aimed at improving the lives of local residents.
