Protest March Organized Over Encroachment, Development Issues

Bishunpura: A large-scale candle march was held on Monday to protest alleged administrative negligence and delays in development activities. The protest was led by Block Chief Deepa Kumari and witnessed participation from thousands of villagers, youth, and women representing various panchayats of the block. Participants marched while carrying candles and the national flag, expressing their demands for administrative accountability and timely development.

The march began at around 5:00 PM from the Kocheya Mor petrol pump and proceeded through Bishunpur market, drawing significant public attention. After reaching Sandhya Mor, the procession culminated at Lal Chowk, where a large public meeting was organized. During the protest, a symbolic funeral procession of Block Development Officer–cum–Circle Officer Khagesh Kumar was taken out, followed by the burning of his effigy near the disputed encroached land at Lal Chowk.

Addressing the gathering, Block Chief Deepa Kumari alleged that repeated complaints regarding encroachment near Lal Chowk had not been acted upon despite being formally raised with the Sub-Divisional Officer at Banshidhar Nagar. She claimed that the administration’s lack of coordination with elected representatives had led to several development schemes remaining pending, thereby affecting public welfare.

She further alleged that elected representatives were being ignored in administrative decision-making, resulting in delays in addressing even basic public issues. Senior local representatives and community members were present at the protest. Organizers warned that if corrective steps are not taken soon to resolve the encroachment issue and expedite development works, further protests may be intensified in the coming days.
