Brampton/Ontario: The North America Chhattisgarh Association (NACHA) Canada brought together members of the Chhattisgarhi diaspora to celebrate Diwali and the 26th Foundation Day of Chhattisgarh in Brampton, Ontario, on Sunday. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 15 families and served as a vibrant platform for cultural exchange, entertainment, and community engagement.
The celebrations featured a diverse lineup of activities, including Bollywood Antakshari, karaoke sessions, children’s performances, interactive games, raffle draws, and a spread of traditional Indian delicacies. The gathering provided an opportunity for families of all ages to reconnect with their cultural roots while fostering stronger bonds within the community.
The occasion also marked the 26th anniversary of the formation of Chhattisgarh, which was carved out as India’s 26th state on November 1, 2000. Participants celebrated the state’s rich heritage, traditions, and enduring cultural identity, reflecting the pride of the Chhattisgarhi community living abroad.
Speaking on the occasion, a representative of NACHA Canada underlined the importance of personal interactions in preserving cultural values and community spirit. “Community building is much more than social media interactions or WhatsApp groups. It is about bringing people together, forging meaningful relationships, and passing our traditions and values to future generations. Such gatherings help keep our Chhattisgarhi identity alive while strengthening our sense of belonging in Canada,” the representative said.
Organisers expressed gratitude to all volunteers, participating families, and community members whose support contributed to the success of the event. They noted that such celebrations play a crucial role in preserving cultural heritage and nurturing a sense of unity among members of the diaspora.
NACHA is a community-based organisation committed to connecting people with roots in Chhattisgarh across North America. Through cultural, social, and community-focused initiatives, the association works to promote heritage preservation, community participation, and stronger interpersonal connections among Chhattisgarhi families.
The event concluded on a festive note, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness and cultural pride that continues to unite the Chhattisgarhi community across continents.
