New Delhi: Riding on the wave of India’s impressive performance at the WorldSkills Competition Shanghai 2026, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has reopened the registration window for the IndiaSkills Competition 2026-27 until October 19, 2026. The move comes in response to widespread requests from educational institutions and aspiring participants seeking an opportunity to join the country’s premier skill competition.
The decision follows a remarkable achievement by Team India at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, where the nation secured the 10th position globally, earning six Silver Medals and 20 Medallions for Excellence. The performance marked a significant improvement over India’s 13th-place finish at WorldSkills Lyon 2024 and highlighted the growing strength of India’s skilled workforce.
Further boosting enthusiasm for vocational excellence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently interacted with members of Team India at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi, on October 9. During the interaction, the Prime Minister lauded the achievements of the country’s young competitors and emphasized the crucial role of skill development in nation-building and economic growth.
According to the Ministry, the interaction generated renewed interest among youth and training institutions nationwide, leading to numerous representations requesting an extension of the registration deadline. Acting on these appeals, MSDE has provided an additional opportunity for eligible candidates to register through the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) portal until October 19.
IndiaSkills 2026-27 has already attracted nearly four lakh registrations, reflecting growing awareness and participation in skill-based competitions across the country. The competition serves as India’s largest platform for showcasing talent across vocational and technical disciplines while aligning participants with globally benchmarked standards.
Organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) as the implementation partner, the competition spans 63 industry-relevant skill categories. These include manufacturing, engineering, construction, digital technologies, creative industries, and various service sectors.
The multi-tier competition framework enables participants to progress through district or zonal, state, regional, and national levels. Successful competitors gain access to expert mentorship, advanced training opportunities, and a pathway to represent India in international skill competitions, including future editions of WorldSkills.
MSDE has urged State Governments, Union Territory administrations, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), polytechnics, colleges, skill development centres, and industry partners to actively disseminate information about the reopened registration window and assist interested candidates in completing the enrolment process.
Officials believe that the extension will help widen participation and identify a larger pool of talented youth capable of emerging as future skill champions. With India’s largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors having represented the nation across 63 skills at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, the government hopes to build on the momentum and further strengthen India’s position as a global hub of skilled talent.
The success of Team India has reinforced the message that specialized training, industry-aligned skills, and sustained preparation can create unprecedented opportunities for young Indians, both within the country and on the international stage.
