Commissioner Reviews Voter Roll Revision Work, 27,000 New Voters Added in Drive

Garhwa: Divisional Commissioner Kumud Sahay on Wednesday conducted a surprise inspection of voter list revision and digitisation activities being carried out in Garhwa district under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Programme, reviewing the progress of electoral roll updation and directing officials to ensure inclusive and transparent implementation of the exercise.

Upon her arrival in Garhwa, Divisional Commissioner Sahay was welcomed by Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Pashupati Nath Mishra at the Circuit House. She was later accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour before proceeding to inspection sites across the district.

During her visit, the Commissioner inspected RK Govind School and PM Shri Upgraded High School, Jata, under the 80-Garhwa Assembly Constituency, as well as the Block-cum-Circle Office at Shri Banshidhar Nagar and Narhi Panchayat Secretariat under the 81-Bhawnathpur Assembly Constituency.

The inspection focused on ongoing digitisation drives, voter enrolment activities through Form-6, public grievance redressal mechanisms, and various components of the SIR programme. Reviewing the status and quality of work, Sahay interacted with election officials and field personnel and directed them to complete all tasks within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining prescribed standards and transparency.

Interacting directly with citizens present at the inspection sites, the Commissioner sought feedback on the voter revision process and enquired about grievances, if any. She instructed officials to ensure that eligible voters face no difficulties in getting their names added to the electoral rolls or in availing other election-related services. Citizens should be provided with adequate information and assistance throughout the process, she said.

Deputy Commissioner Pashupati Nath Mishra also reviewed the progress of the campaign and directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring of SIR-related activities. He emphasised that ensuring the inclusion of every eligible voter in the electoral list remains a top priority of the district administration.

According to officials, nearly 27,000 voters have been added to the electoral rolls in Garhwa district through Form-6 applications under the Special Intensive Revision programme so far. Expressing satisfaction over the progress, the Commissioner stressed the need to intensify awareness efforts and extend support to all remaining eligible citizens.

As part of the ongoing campaign, a Help Desk Programme will be organised at every polling station across the district on October 10, providing citizens with information and assistance related to voter registration, corrections and required documentation. A Special Outreach Programme will also be conducted from October 12 to 16, during which election teams will undertake door-to-door visits to identify and enrol eligible citizens who may have been left out of the revision process.

Officials said the outreach campaign will pay special attention to vulnerable and marginalised groups, including senior citizens, transgender persons, orphans, sex workers and other eligible individuals who may not yet be included in the voter list.

Speaking during the inspection, Commissioner Kumud Sahay said the objective of the Special Intensive Revision exercise is to create a voter list that is more accurate, updated, transparent and inclusive. She directed all officials associated with the programme to ensure fairness, transparency and strict adherence to Election Commission guidelines throughout the process.
