New Delhi: In a major step towards strengthening Digital India and improving farmer services, Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the upgraded Agri Welfare Portal, a unified digital platform aimed at providing farmers with easy access to government schemes, financial assistance and essential agricultural information through their mobile phones.
Launching the portal, Chouhan said the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making government services readily accessible to citizens and farmers through technology. He noted that farmers will no longer have to visit multiple offices or websites to obtain information or apply for schemes, as the portal will serve as a single-window gateway for key initiatives such as PM-KISAN, AgriStack and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
The minister emphasized that the platform must remain simple, reliable and regularly updated so that even small and marginal farmers can use it without difficulty. He also announced that training programmes would be conducted through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) to help farmers effectively utilize the portal and other digital tools.
Designed in line with government digital standards, the portal offers a secure, mobile-friendly and accessible experience, including support for persons with disabilities. It will also connect stakeholders such as Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), PACS, agricultural scientists, researchers and startups on a common digital platform, promoting greater transparency, easier access to services and timely agricultural information for farmers across the country.
