Political Parties Urged to Help Ensure Inclusive Voter Rolls in Latehar

Latehar: Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Sandeep Kumar met representatives of recognised political parties on Monday to review the implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, 2026.

Officials briefed the representatives on the progress of claims and objections, notices and verification under the programme, in accordance with directions issued by the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand.

The district will hold the fifth round of Booth Level Officer–Booth Level Agent-2 (BLO–BLA-2) meetings and Electoral Literacy Classes at all polling stations on November 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. At the meetings, BLOs will read out the names of voters whose verification remains incomplete before BLA-2s, other members and members of the public. Participants may provide relevant information, suggestions or objections to support the verification process.

The administration said the exercise aimed to ensure that every eligible Indian citizen is included in the electoral roll and that ineligible persons are not registered.

The district has received 22,051 applications in Form 6, 2,132 in Form 7 and 8,721 in Form 8 so far. Kumar said the number of Form 6 applications remained comparatively low, as the revision process had been pending for the past two years. He urged political party representatives to use the November 4 meetings to encourage all eligible residents who turned 18 by October 1, 2026, to apply for enrolment.

Eligible citizens can submit applications through their BLOs, the ECINET app or the Voter Service Portal by November 18, the administration said.

The meeting also reviewed the disposal of cases under the “No Mapping”, “Logical Discrepancy” and “Other Category” classifications, with figures updated to November 3. Of 122,974 Logical Discrepancy cases, 84,488 (68.70%) had been disposed of. In the No Mapping category, 16,646 of 46,877 cases (35.51%) had been resolved. The Other Category had recorded the highest progress, with 329,687 of 331,107 cases (99.57%) disposed of.

Kumar described the revision as a participatory and transparent process, saying updates were being shared with the public and recognised political parties at each stage. He appealed to party representatives to work with the administration to prepare an accurate and inclusive electoral roll and ensure that no eligible voter is deprived of the right to vote.

Officials also asked the representatives to participate actively in the November 4 meetings. Deputy Election Officer Mary Murmu, District Public Relations Officer Dr Chandan, representatives of recognised political parties and staff of the District Election Office attended the meeting.
