New Delhi: In a significant development in the Vineet Tiwari murder case, the National Human Rights Commission has sought a response from the Superintendent of Police of Palamu following a complaint and representation submitted before the Commission regarding the matter.
The action comes shortly after member of DISHA committee Devesh Tiwari met NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo in New Delhi on May 14, 2026, and apprised him in detail about the circumstances surrounding the murder case. During the meeting, concerns related to the investigation, law and order, and the broader issue of rising criminal activities in the region were reportedly highlighted before the Commission.
According to Devesh Tiwari, the NHRC’s decision to seek a report from the Palamu police administration marks an important step towards ensuring transparency, accountability and justice in the case. He expressed hope that the intervention of the country’s apex human rights body would help bring the truth to light and strengthen public confidence in the justice system.
Speaking on the issue, Devesh Tiwari stated that the fight against crime and criminal elements in Palamu would continue relentlessly. “This is not merely a battle for one family or one individual, but a larger fight for justice, public safety and the rule of law in society. I will continue this struggle with full determination and commitment till my last breath,” he added.
The development has sparked fresh discussions in the region, with many viewing the NHRC’s intervention as a serious acknowledgment of public concerns surrounding the case. The murder of Vineet Tiwari had earlier generated considerable attention locally, with repeated demands from citizens and social groups for an impartial and effective investigation.
Observers believe that the Commission’s notice to the district police administration could increase pressure on the investigating agencies to expedite the probe and ensure accountability in the matter.
