GARHWA: The Municipal (General) Election 2026 concluded smoothly across Garhwa district on Tuesday, with an overall voter turnout of 66.04%. After polling ended, District Election Officer–cum–Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Yadav and Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar jointly addressed the media at the Local Market Committee premises, highlighting key aspects of the day-long electoral process.
According to officials, polling was conducted in a peaceful and disciplined manner across all three municipal bodies—Garhwa Nagar Parishad (Category B), Shri Banshidhar Nagar Nagar Panchayat, and Majhianv Nagar Panchayat. Garhwa Nagar Parishad registered the highest turnout at 67.77%, followed by Shri Banshidhar Nagar at 64.80%, and Majhianv at 64.35%. Voter enthusiasm remained steady, with turnout rising consistently through the day, crossing 63% by 5 PM.
The District Election Officer stated that all procedures were carried out strictly in accordance with the State Election Commission’s guidelines. He expressed gratitude to voters, polling personnel, security forces, and media representatives for their cooperation, which ensured an incident-free polling day. A total of 76,559 voters were registered across the three urban local bodies, spread over 42 polling stations in Garhwa, 30 in Shri Banshidhar Nagar, and 17 in Majhivon.
Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar confirmed that adequate security arrangements were deployed to maintain a fair, fearless, and peaceful voting environment. No untoward incidents or complaints requiring an FIR were reported during the polling process.
This year’s municipal election was conducted using ballot papers and ballot boxes, and the NOTA option was not available. Polling was held from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM across all booths.
Officials informed that counting of votes will take place on February 27, following which results for all wards will be declared.
