LATEHAR: The District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT) Council meeting was convened today at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Chatra, Shri Kali Charan Singh. The session focused on reviewing ongoing projects, approving new proposals, and ensuring transparent utilization of DMFT funds for the welfare of mining-affected communities.
At the outset, the meeting agenda was presented to council members, followed by detailed discussions on development schemes being implemented under DMFT. Deputy Commissioner Utkarsh Gupta briefed the gathering on government guidelines, the availability of funds, and the categories of schemes eligible for inclusion. He emphasized that DMFT resources must be directed toward panchayat areas directly or indirectly impacted by mining activities. Scheme selection, he explained, is carried out through Gram Sabhas, with priorities carefully assessed to meet local needs.
A comprehensive review was conducted on previously sanctioned projects, ongoing works, and new proposals. In a major outcome, the committee unanimously approved 9,623 proposals, paving the way for extensive developmental initiatives.
The Deputy Commissioner also shared the official list of identified mining-affected regions, ensuring clarity in planning. The council deliberated on projects already approved by the DMFT’s managerial committee, seeking final endorsement from the Trust Council. Significant decisions were taken collectively by the local MP, legislators, and other representatives.

Addressing the meeting, MP Kali Charan Singh stressed that DMFT funds must be utilized on a priority basis for the holistic development of mining-affected areas and to improve the living standards of local residents. He directed that all schemes be implemented in a transparent, high-quality, and time-bound manner, ensuring accountability and tangible benefits for the community.
The meeting was attended by MLA Latehar Prakash Ram, MLA Manika Ramchandra Singh, Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav, Deputy Election Officer Smt. Mary Madki, DMFT Officer-in-Charge Sameer Kullu, along with block-level representatives including Pramukhs, Up-Pramukhs, and Mukhiyas from mining-affected regions.
The session concluded with a strong commitment to channel DMFT resources toward sustainable development and community welfare.
