Justice NV Ramana became 48th Chief Justice of India

NEW DELHI: Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana was sworn in as the 48th Chief Justice of India by President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad were among those present at the ceremony.

He was born on August 27, 1957 in Ponnavaram village of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh.  He was first enrolled as an advocate in February 1983.

Justice Ramana, was appointed as permanent judge of Andhra Pradesh High Court in June 2000, also functioned as the acting Chief justice of the same high court from March 10th 2013 to May 20th 2013.

Subsequently, he was elevated as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court in Sept 2013, and also appointed as Judge of Supreme Court of India on February 17th 2014.
