GARHWA: Multiple cases of irregularities in paddy procurement have surfaced under the Jharkhand State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited in Garhwa district. Following a detailed probe, Deputy Commissioner‑cum‑District Magistrate Dinesh Yadav has taken punitive action against concerned Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), a Farmer Producer Company (FPC), and several deputed staff members.
The first case concerns Dube Marhatia PACS in Garhwa block, where farmers complained during a public hearing that the PACS President was taking 5 kg extra paddy per quintal and charging ₹20 per quintal as weighing fees. The President’s explanation was found unsatisfactory. As a result, the District Supply Officer has been ordered to deduct 25% of the PACS commission, and the District Cooperative Officer has been directed to begin the license cancellation process. In related action, Jan Sevak Bhagirathi Ravi has been suspended for negligence, and computer operator Sweta Kumari has been relieved of duty after being found absent during inspection.
Similar irregularities were confirmed at Sona‑Sobaran Farmer Producer Company Limited in Kharaundhi block, where 5 kg extra paddy per quintal was being taken from farmers. The procurement centre was also illegally shifted to a private residence without approval. The FPC’s reply was deemed unsatisfactory, leading to a 25% commission deduction and orders to initiate license cancellation. Additionally, Panchayat Sevak Krishna Kumar and computer operator Dinesh Kumar Gupta have been removed from their roles for negligence.
