Food Safety Team Seizes and Destroys 180 kg of Sweets in Garhwa

Garhwa: The Food Safety Department seized and destroyed around 180 kg of suspected adulterated ready-made sweets during inspections of food establishments across town on Wednesday, ahead of the festive season.

The inspection was conducted on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Pashupati Nath Mishra and the Additional Chief Medical Officer-cum-Designated Officer. Food Safety Officer Deepshree, Garhwa-1, led the team, which inspected wholesale and retail outlets.

At Gupta Fruit Stall near the bus stand, officials seized and destroyed 170 kg of ready-made sweets and collected a sample of peda for laboratory testing. They also seized and destroyed 4 kg of sweets at Jitendra Tilkut Bhandar and 5 kg at Mukesh Kumar Mishthan. The latter two businesses were warned against continuing such practices.

The team also inspected Sanjay Hotel, Ashok Bhojanalaya, Banarasi Sweets, Kaju Sweets, Jaiswal Sweets and Sudhanshu Sweets. Officials found cleanliness deficiencies at some establishments and found some operators running businesses without food safety licences. They were directed to improve hygiene, sell food that meets prescribed quality standards and obtain the required licences.

All food businesses were instructed to follow the Food Safety and Standards Act and applicable regulations, use FSSAI-compliant food additives and certified colours, and avoid unnecessary colouring. The department said inspections would continue to prevent the storage and sale of adulterated food and ensure compliance with food safety requirements.
