Activist Deepak Sharma Launches Save ‘Danaro River’

Garhwa: Putting himself at the forefront of a growing environmental movement, Deepak Sharma, convenor of the Danaro Nadi Bachao Janandolan, has launched a passionate public appeal urging the people of Garhwa to unite for the protection of the Danaro River, one of the district’s most cherished natural landmarks.

Sharma announced a mass signature campaign at Ranka Mor on October 4 at 7 AM onwards, describing it as a historic opportunity for citizens to demonstrate their commitment to preserving the river for future generations.

Calling Danaro the “lifeline and identity of Garhwa,” Sharma said the campaign is not about politics but about protecting a shared legacy. He expressed concern over the worsening condition of the river and warned that silence today could become a source of regret tomorrow.

The river that shaped our childhood, nourished our town and gave Garhwa its identity is crying for help. If we do not act now, future generations will ask where we stood when Danaro needed us most,” Sharma said.

Positioning himself as the face of the campaign, Sharma has appealed to residents from all walks of life, including students, traders, professionals, social workers and community leaders, to join the movement and make their voices heard through a single, powerful act: their signature.

According to Sharma, every signature will represent a pledge that the people of Garhwa will not allow their river to disappear under the weight of neglect and pollution. He described the initiative as the beginning of a broader people’s movement to restore ecological consciousness and civic responsibility in the district.
