Garhwa/Bardiha: In an initiative to strengthen social and economic security for labourers, Block Development Officer Pravin Singh has urged construction workers, labourers engaged in the unorganised sector, and especially migrant workers travelling to other states for employment to complete their registration under the Social Security Code, 2020. Describing registration as a vital “protective shield” for workers, the BDO said it enables labourers and their families to access a wide range of welfare benefits, financial assistance, and legal safeguards during times of need.
To achieve the target of 100 percent worker registration, the administration will organise special enrolment camps in all panchayats of Bardeeha Block after the Durga Puja festivities. Alongside the registration drive, a special awareness workshop has been scheduled for October 24, 2026, at the Block Auditorium to educate workers, contractors, and stakeholders about registration procedures and the welfare provisions available to registered labourers.
The BDO Singh further informed that contractors and agencies operating in the region have been instructed to ensure registration of every worker employed under them. He stressed that no labourer should be taken outside the state for employment without proper registration and valid authorisation, ensuring that migrant workers remain protected and eligible for government benefits.
Under the provisions of the scheme, registered migrant workers are entitled to multiple benefits, including wages from the date of agreement with a contractor or agent, along with a mandatory displacement allowance equivalent to half a month’s wages. Contractors or principal employers are also required to bear the full travel expenses of workers and compensate them for wages lost during the journey to their workplace.
The registration framework also provides significant financial protection in cases of accidents, natural disasters, disability, and death. Dependents of registered workers are eligible for assistance of up to ₹2 lakh in the event of death or permanent total disability, while compensation is also available for the loss of limbs or eyesight. In cases of natural death, provisions have been made for reimbursement of expenses incurred in transporting mortal remains to the worker’s native place. Additionally, under the Chief Minister Jharkhand International Migrant Worker Grant Scheme, families of workers who die unexpectedly while employed abroad are entitled to a one-time financial assistance of ₹5 lakh.
Workers can complete their registration online through the Shramadhan Portal or with assistance from nearby Pragya Kendras by providing Aadhaar details, bank account information, and an active mobile number. For complaints related to workplace exploitation, wage disputes, allowance-related grievances, or emergencies, workers may seek assistance through the toll-free helpline 1800-345-6526.
Appealing to all migrant and unorganised sector workers, BDO Pravin Singh urged them to take advantage of the upcoming panchayat-level camps and complete their registration at the earliest, stating that timely enrolment would help secure their future and ensure access to the full range of welfare and social security benefits provided by the government.
