Jharkhand Budget Lacks Direction and Vision, Says Suraj Singh

GARHWA: Suraj Singh, Chairman of the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department in Jharkhand, has sharply criticised the state government’s newly presented budget, calling it disappointing, anti-people and completely directionless. According to him, the budget fails to address the core needs of citizens and offers no solid roadmap for the state’s long-term development.

Singh said that the youth of Jharkhand had expected meaningful initiatives related to employment generation, skill development and self-employment opportunities. However, the budget, he noted, does not offer any concrete measures for their empowerment. He added that the government’s assurances appear confined to announcements without practical action on the ground.

He pointed out that crucial areas of education were overlooked, including new scholarship schemes, financial support for higher studies and provisions for competitive exam preparation. Singh also criticised the government’s silence on the future of contractual workers, stating that the lack of clarity has left thousands of families in uncertainty.

Commenting on the agricultural sector, he said that farmers were hoping for strong steps on irrigation facilities, crop protection, subsidies and loan relief. “The budget provides no effective solution to their pressing challenges,” he said. He also termed the absence of robust initiatives for women’s economic empowerment as deeply concerning.

Highlighting the current inflationary environment, Singh said that the failure to increase pensions for senior citizens and persons with disabilities reflects insensitivity towards vulnerable sections of society.

He concluded by stating that the budget represents an injustice to Jharkhand’s future and that the public will respond democratically in due course.
