Achyut Patwardhan Junior School Marks Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Birth Anniversary

Varanasi: Achyut Patwardhan Junior School observed the 135th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar on Monday, April 13, a day ahead of the official date due to a public holiday on April 14. The programme was held with solemnity and enthusiasm, featuring speeches, cultural presentations, and tributes celebrating the life and ideals of the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of a lamp before Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait by the chief guests along with the school principal, headmaster, and director. The occasion was attended by noted academic and columnist Mr. Abhijeet Pathak, former Professor of Sociology at Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Ms. Smriti Verma, former Indian Railway Accounts Service officer (1987 batch), who retired in 2025 after over 35 years of service.

The programme was anchored by Divya Prakash Shukla. A speech on Dr. Ambedkar’s life and values was delivered by Rimjhim, a Class 6 student, which was well received by the audience. A central attraction of the celebration was a stage play titled “Kahab Ta Lag Jai Dhak Se”, depicting Dr. Ambedkar’s struggles and contributions. The play was conceptualized and directed by Anjali Yadav and Divya Prakash Shukla.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Smriti Verma spoke on Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of equality and justice and encouraged students to follow these principles. She later joined music teacher Mr. Manohar for a rendition of an inspirational song. Principal Arjun Bhadauriya delivered the note of thanks. The programme concluded with floral tributes by teachers and was attended by B.Ed. students from Vasanta College for Women as well.
