Garhwa: The district administration on Tuesday convened a high‑level meeting of the District Road Safety Committee at the Collectorate Auditorium, focusing on accident prevention, public awareness, and strengthening road infrastructure. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner‑cum‑District Magistrate Dinesh Kumar Yadav, with active participation from officials of the Police, Transport, Health, NHAI, Road Construction Department, and representatives of public bodies.
District Transport Officer (DTO) Dheeraj Prakash opened the session with a detailed presentation on ongoing road‑safety initiatives. Expressing concern over rising road accidents, the Deputy Commissioner stated that road construction alone cannot curb accidents; disciplined driving and public awareness are equally vital. He instructed all departments to ensure time‑bound and effective actions on every aspect of road safety.
Special emphasis was laid on awareness campaigns in schools and colleges to instill responsible traffic behavior among children and youth. The DC also directed strict enforcement of traffic rules, mandatory use of helmets and seat belts, installation of road signage, and regular vehicle‑checking drives across all police station jurisdictions.
The progress of ongoing road construction and widening projects was reviewed, with clear instructions to complete work within deadlines and maintain quality standards. Issues related to urban waterlogging, particularly around elevated roads and Sadar Hospital, were also discussed, and officials were directed to develop effective drainage solutions.
The Deputy Commissioner asked police officials to identify accident‑prone black spots and submit a detailed report with photographs in the next meeting. He also instructed the Health Department to ensure timely post‑mortem reports for accurate accident analysis.
Appealing to the public, he urged citizens to follow traffic rules and use helpline 1033 for highway emergencies and 112 for other urgent situations.
