NEW DELHI: The India AI Impact Summit 2026, held from 16–21 February in New Delhi, emerged as one of the most significant global gatherings on artificial intelligence, drawing unprecedented participation and shaping an international consensus on responsible and inclusive AI development. The six‑day Summit recorded approximately six lakh in‑person attendees and over nine lakh virtual views, with delegations representing more than 100 countries and 20 international organisations.
A highlight of the event was India’s entry into the Guinness World Records for securing the “Most pledges received for an AI responsibility campaign in 24 hours.” More than 2.5 lakh validated pledges were collected, underscoring widespread public commitment to ethical and accountable AI adoption.
In a major infrastructure announcement, the Government of India revealed a substantial expansion of its national AI compute capacity. Alongside the 38,000+ GPUs provisioned under the IndiaAI Mission, an additional 20,000 GPUs will soon be added, significantly strengthening the country’s sovereign AI capabilities.
The Summit served as a platform for advancing global frameworks aimed at fostering resilient, trustworthy and inclusive AI. The India AI Impact Summit Declaration—endorsed by 92 countries and organisations—outlined the collective work undertaken by seven thematic groups during the event.
Thirteen global and Indian frontier model developers committed to the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments, marking a key step toward safe deployment of advanced AI systems. The Global AI Impact Commons was also launched, featuring over 80 high‑impact AI case studies across 30 nations, designed to help countries replicate scalable solutions.
The AI Impact Expo became one of the largest AI exhibitions globally, hosting over 850 exhibitors across 10 thematic pavilions. A live demonstration of an open‑source handheld assistive device for the visually impaired—developed by BHASHINI and Current AI—garnered significant attention for its multilingual real‑time recognition capabilities.
Six global casebooks on AI applications were released in partnerships spanning WHO, IEA, UN Women, the World Bank, CSF, EkStep Foundation and others. MeitY also launched the AI Impact Startup Book, showcasing India’s rapidly growing deep‑tech ecosystem.
Reflecting India’s strong digital adoption, nearly 80% of food court payments during the Summit were made via UPI.
The India AI Impact Summit 2026 concluded with far‑reaching commitments that reflect an emerging global consensus to shape AI as a tool for economic growth, social empowerment and sustainable development—while ensuring equity, resilience and democratic access to emerging technologies.
