PATNA: A seminar on the ’Indian Education System’ was held at British Lingua in Patna on the occasion of the International Day of Education and People’s Hero Karpoori Thakur, the former Chief Minister of Bihar.
Speaking at the event, Dr Birbal Jha, a highly acclaimed English litterateur and Bihar’s top social entrepreneur stated that Indian education has evolved significantly over time, and it is based on social values and ethos. It takes everybody along.
“There was a time when the students used to settle at the teacher’s place for formative years while receiving schooling, as it was called Gurukul, the teacher’s abode of learning. Now times have changed with modern facilities and gadgets in place.”, added Dr Birbal Jha, credited with creating a revolution in English training in India.
“The teaching in the past was specific to life skills as it was the need of the hour. However, the current education system has seen a great change in tune with the current demand of the market,” said Birbal Jha, known as a Living Legend of Bihar.
“The central government, led by Narendra Modi, through its new education policy, emphasized skill-based education, retaining the tertiary education that is 10th board, 12th board, pre-graduation, and post-graduation with the highest doctoral award.”, pointed Dr Birbal Jha, author of a book titled ‘Celebrate Your Life’.
Dr Birbal Jha, a global skills trainer, believes that our skilling system has to be on par with global needs and requirements, and foreign languages, including English, play a great role in this.
“The beauty of India is in its cultural richness and multilingualism, where English links us professionally while Hindi connects us emotionally.”, mentioned Dr Birbal Jha, celebrity author of more than thirty books on English language, Self-help and Indian culture.
“Bihar is the only state where a pass without English has been in place since then-CM Karpoori Thakur’s tenure.”, recalled Dr Birbal Jha, who has held many marches with an appeal to the government to make English a compulsory subject in the 10th Board Examinations.
Dr Birbal Jha further urged the government to encourage the current generation to learn English with due attention.
