Garhwa: DDC Prem Lata Murmu has directed contractors to complete all ongoing schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Garhwa district by December 31, 2026, and ensure the commencement of regular water supply. The directive was issued during a review meeting held at the Collectorate conference hall to assess the progress of 13 Multi-Village Schemes (MVS) and 31 Single-Village Scheme (SVS) clusters.
Expressing displeasure over non-compliance with instructions issued at the previous review meeting on October 8, Murmu warned contractors against further delays and directed officials to seek explanations from those who remained absent. She made it clear that negligence and unnecessary delays in executing the projects would not be tolerated.
Addressing infrastructure-related bottlenecks, Murmu directed the Assistant Engineer of the Road Construction Department to expedite the issuance of pending no-objection certificates (NOCs). The department’s Executive Engineer was also instructed to ensure the prompt repair of pipelines damaged during road construction so that disrupted water supply could be restored.
The DDC instructed all contractors and concerned officials to work in coordination and adhere strictly to the December deadline. She also directed engineers of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division to conduct regular site inspections, closely monitor construction progress and take corrective measures wherever necessary.
The Executive Engineer of the Garhwa Electricity Supply Division was directed to resolve electricity-related problems affecting water supply schemes within seven days. The administration stressed that power-related issues should not hamper the operation of completed infrastructure or delay the delivery of drinking water to residents.
The meeting was attended by the Executive Engineers of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division and the Electricity Supply Division, the Assistant Engineer of the Road Construction Department, engineers and junior engineers of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, district coordinators of the Jal Jeevan Mission and the contractors concerned.
The district administration reiterated that timely completion of the schemes and the provision of safe drinking water to rural households remain key priorities. The December 31 deadline now places the responsibility on implementing agencies and contractors to accelerate construction, resolve outstanding technical issues and ensure that infrastructure translates into actual household water supply.
